12/19/00 - Phil Imholte and Dave Potasek's Team Adequate has won the fourth and perhaps final season of fantasy football in their first year in the league, beating John Roberts's Iowa Barnstormers in a victory surprising to some, yet expected by many.
The Iowa Barnstormers had rolled over many a team this season, including two previous wins against Team Adequate, but had their losses too and by no means were considered unbeatable this season like the Power Players last year who lost a shocking championship game to the Incarcerated Scarfaces of Ben Ortega. Team Adequate, on the other hand, was the hot team coming into the playoffs, having won 9 of their last 10 games before their loss to the Barnstormers in the last game of the regular season.
Still, Team Adequate rolled over a challenging Vanilla Skyy Storm in the first round of the playoffs, and wrapped up a win in the finals with huge games from Eddie George and Torry Holt and fittingly adequate games from everyone else. That was enough to knock off the Barnstormers, who were the second team in a row to squander a great week 16 performance from Marshall Faulk by having three players in single-digits. Last year it was Tyson's foolish trust in the always-overrated Jeff George that did him in, while this year John's Redskins defense contributed to his demise. Who's the Redskins quarterback now, you ask? That's right, Jeff George. What a cockmaster.
Otherwise, congratulations go out to every other team in the league as well. Except for Tyson's team, since he never paid. And congratulations go to me, the commissioner, for running this league for four years and never winning a cent despite a record of 33-22-1 over those four seasons. (And that's with an awful 4-10 record in 1998 that was bad luck. Bad luck I tell you!) So, like John Elway or Dan Marino of years past, I open it up for speculation as to whether or not I will retire in the offseason and have my IP address retired.
Below is the Fantasy Football league chat window and message board. I doubt you'll find anyone in the chat room with the possible exception of right after weekly scores are posted, but the message board should be a real nice feature. Let me know what you think of this thing.
